Server migration update
Posted by Joey Day
Sorry I didn’t post anything sooner, but I do want to give you all a heads-up on what happened with the server maintenance a couple weeks ago. The important news is that at the last minute we decided not to upgrade to the higher specs I had mentioned in my outage notification. There was a misunderstanding with the first price quote we received and the actual quote turned out to be much higher than we wanted to pay without trying some other measures first to improve server performance and stability. So, all that was accomplished during the maintenance window was a server transplant from the Los Angeles facility to a datacenter here in Salt Lake City.
One of the measures we are trying presently is to move our high-traffic databases to a separate MySQL server. A few databases were moved last night and we intend to move a couple more tonight and then give it a week or two to assess the cpu load and determine if this has made an improvement. The server upgrade is still on the table as an option if this setup doesn’t change things for the better. I’ll keep you posted on what we find out.
Thank you all for your patience as we go through these growing pains.
